The Rachis Table sketches a neat, frozen gesture of a tree being cut down – or the kinetics of an oscillating, teetering stack of cups and saucers as described in a fairytale. More literally, Rachis is latin for “spine” – a nod toward a form that might resemble the semblance of a dancer’s torso.
The timber sections of the Rachis are laminated from solid wood and cut to form on a 5-axis computer numeric control machine. They are then treated and sealed in a fashion that best enhances the wood construction and exposed surfaces. The metal members are laser-cut on a flatbed CNC machine, treated, then sealed to complement the adjacent timbers. The components are then joined by an internal armature system to give the table perfect stability.
The Rachis is typically offered as an occasional table but can also be made as a center table or meals table. Further, a limited edition of the occasional table is offered in weathered live-edge timber sculpted directly from reclaimed logs.
